August is National Family Fun Month, and the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) says there’s no better place to enjoy time with your family than the Grand Strand with its ample opportunities for fun and edutainment that fit any budget.
“The Myrtle Beach area is celebrated for its abundance of activities for every type of traveler, particularly families. Whether exploring educational attractions, enjoying live entertainment, experiencing the thrills of amusement rides or discovering one of the area’s 30-plus mini golf courses, The Beach has something for all ages,” said Stuart Butler, chief marketing officer for the CVB.
Throughout August, the Grand Strand is hosting a variety of kid-friendly events, including:
• Crafter’s Cove Classes: Held at Surfside Beach’s 3rd Ave. South beach access on Thursdays, Aug. 1, 8 and 15, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., these free, ocean-inspired educational classes conducted by EdVenture and the Town of Surfside are ideal for children up to 10 years old.
• Family Pride Workshop: Taking place on Sat., Aug. 3, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Myrtle Beach’s Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, this free event allows youth to create their own charcoal and ink drawings inspired by the works of Sally K. Smith.
• Nature Bingo: The Myrtle Beach State Park hosts a variety of interactive children’s programs about sea life, including Nature Bingo happening on Saturdays, Aug. 3 and 10, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is not required, and the activity is free with park admission.
• Movies at Mclean: On Fri., Aug. 9 at 7 p.m., bring a blanket to enjoy a free showing of the animated movie “Migration” at McLean Park in North Myrtle Beach. The North Myrtle Beach Lions Club will be selling popcorn, refreshments and drinks.
• Handyman Hal Meet & Greet: On Sat., Aug. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m., the character Handyman Hal will be signing autographs, taking pictures and giving away stickers at Broadway at the Beach’s Ride Makerz. The event is free.
• 1229 Shine’s Back to School Kids Bash: The Market Common’s 1229 Shine restaurant is offering live music, face painting, a jump castle, Mister Softee ice cream truck and more on Sat., Aug. 24 from 2 to 8 p.m. The event is free to attend.
• Family Friday Dino Night: Young fans attending the Pelican’s Baseball game on Fri., Aug. 30, at 7 p.m., can ride a triceratops or pet a baby raptor as Ed’s Dinosaurs Live roams the ballpark at no additional charge. Plus, youth 12 and under receive a free Fun Zone wristband with a donation item for Backpack Buddies and can watch the free fireworks show after the game. Admission tickets to the ballpark are required.
